Kendamil is a Sustainable Baby Milk: Vegetarian, Fish oil-free, Palm oil-free & Plant-based DHA.

At Kendamil, we’re a sustainable brand. That’s why we’re the only palm oil-free, fish oil-free, vegetarian-friendly British made brand.

Here at Kendamil, we’re a fully sustainable brand. We believe in looking after your little ones’ future in more ways than one. That’s why we’re committed to being palm oil-free, fish oil-free AND have our factory run on 100% renewable energy. Because we’ve made a commitment to ourselves, parents and babies: to be kind, ethical and sustainable in everything we do, from farm to formula.

So, you may be wondering “How is Kendamil a sustainable brand?”

🇬🇧 British-made: Kendamil relies on local supply chain

Unlike other UK brands, which rely on long transport routes as a result of their baby milk being manufactured overseas, Kendamil is the ONLY brand that is locally sourced and British-made. Our homegrown ingredients and Cumbrian factory make us vocal for local!! It also allows us to minimise our carbon emissions!

As the only British baby formula brand, we’re driving towards a lower carbon footprint and reduced greenhouse emissions, with our cans from our Cumbrian factory travelling a shorter distance than any other formula brand. The same factory which proudly runs on 100% renewable electricity!

As a family business, sustainability goes beyond the environment - it means supporting our local communities and local farmers. That is why cows our milk comes from local and neighbouring family farms in Cumbria, our whey from Somerset, our vitamins and minerals from Kent, our essential oils from Yorkshire AND even our packaging comes from the Midlands!

Nurtured locally, made with love AND developed with sustainability in mind. We’ve covered all the bases when constructing a formula with YOUR little one’s future in mind.

☘️ Kendamil is vegetarian-friendly!

We're proudly the only UK baby milk certified by the Vegetarian Society AND you can guarantee our milks have no fishy smells, either!

That’s because we use marine algae as our omega-3 source instead of fish oil. From the very beginning, we made a commitment to be kinder on the planet in everything we do. Sourcing the finest sustainable ingredients for babies safeguards our oceans, while offering an inclusive option for vegetarian families - be it for ethical, sustainability, health or religious reasons.

That’s why we WILL NEVER use fish oil in any of our Kendamil product range. With a uniquely vegetarian recipe, our Kendamil formulas get all the omega-3 DHA your little one needs right from the source: marine algae!

Why we use plant-based DHA instead of fish oil in baby milk:

    • Safety & traceability. Plant-based DHA, sourced from algae, is cultivated in a controlled, pollution-free environment, offering additional assurance in terms of safety
    • A natural source of DHA. The algae we use is fresh, pure and contains NO ocean-borne contaminants
    • Purity. The algae we use is a cleaner source of omega-3 DHA as it’s cultivated in a controlled environment - this means no microplastics, pollutants, dioxins or mercury.
    • Sustainability. We DON’T contribute to the ongoing overfishing crisis. We choose to protect our precious and endangered marine reserves
    • Vegetarian-friendly. By using plant-based DHA, our formula is uniquely vegetarian-friendly. We pride ourselves on dietary inclusivity
    • No fish oil smell or fish allergens.

Being kinder to the planet through the use of algae oil instead of fish oil in our Kendamil baby milk range makes all the difference to the marine environment without compromising ANY nutritional content.

In a nutshell, algal oil provides ALL the omega-3 that a baby needs, without harming any creature, depleting our natural resources or hurting wildlife. It’s a win-win!

🌴 Kendamil is palm oil-free.

Palm oil is a leading cause of deforestation which threatens wildlife ecosystems and indigenous tribes across the globe. So, when you’re choosing a formula that differs from the rest, consider buying a sustainable, palm oil-free formula brand! A reduction in palm oil production is better for our planet and its people. Lowering palm oil production can lead to lower levels of:

Deforestation. From Amazon to Borneo, reducing our palm oil consumption protects rainforests, greenery and wildlife

Endangered animals. Palm oil destroys the natural habitats of our wildlife, endangering several animal species. By reducing palm oil production, we’re safeguarding their natural home

Global warming. Cutting down rainforests to extract palm oil releases tonnes of greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere

🤔 🌍 How does Kendamil sustainably compensate for no palm oil?

By being palm oil-free, we avoid damaging rainforests (or harming precious wildlife) to meet formula standards. In fact, we exceed those standards by using natural whole milk fats and only essential vegetable oils (in particular sunflower and rapeseed) to make our formula balanced, sustainable and full of healthy fats WITHOUT harming our planet.

🐟 Kendamil is fish oil-free.

Many baby formula brands use fish oil in their formulas for omega-3 DHA. However, overharvesting of fish oil has led to the depletion of marine fish populations. In fact, overfishing (also known as commercial fishing) is responsible for destroying nearly A THIRD of the world’s fisheries.

The overharvesting of fish has led to a dangerous rise in environmental issues including:

🎣 Destroying huge populations of marine wildlife. Overfishing has led to an imbalance in marine ecosystems. Trawling (the use of heavy nets to capture large amounts of marine animals used for fish oil, among other products) can seriously damage the balance of an ecosystem

🎣 Polluting precious reefs and marine plants. Marine overfishing also leads to higher levels of sea pollution. Plastic, left from abandoned fishing gear (which is terribly common when unsustainable and unregulated fishing happens) tends to be the main culprit in damaging sensitive marine ecosystems

🎣 Coral bleaching. This is when oceans become ‘stressed’ due to sudden changes in a marine environment, such as overfishing. This results in coral turning white due to expelling symbiotic algae living in their tissues - essentially depleting their nutrient content and rendering them vulnerable to disease. Healthy, ‘unstressed’ coral is an essential source of nutrition for sea wildlife and plays a vital role in protecting coastline erosion. The consequences of coral bleaching are severe. Not only can it reduce the growth rates of marine wildlife, but it can also lower marine biodiversity. It can also prevent local communities (who rely on healthy marine environments for food, tourism and medicine) from prospering

🎣 Deprivation in communities. Talking of local communities, countless indigenous communities across the world rely on sustainable, ethical fishing practices for their livelihood. These communities rely on seafood for the majority of their diet. Overfishing depletes their resources and many of these communities are now sadly endangered - with studies showing that, while indigenous communities protect 80% of the world’s population, they comprise less than 5% of it

🤔 🌍 How does Kendamil sustainably compensate for no fish oil?

Instead of fish oil, we use plant-based omega-3 (sourced from Marine Algae) to sustainably source our omega-3 DHA WITHOUT harming marine ecosystems. This ensures that our brand is responsible for safer marine wildlife, more balanced marine ecosystems while helping protect and safeguard already endangered indigenous communities. Oh, and we’re vegetarian-friendly, making our formula more dietary-inclusive.

Our choice to use plant-based DHA instead of fish oil provides your little one with a more inclusive, more sustainable choice, with NO fish smells to boot! It’s a choice we’ve made to protect the planet, people and future generations.

🐄 💙🌟🌍 Here at Kendamil, we’re sustainability pioneers
